Description
This elegant Dhonekhali saree is woven at a small town known as Dhonekhali in Hooghly district of West Bengal. This handloom marked saree has been woven to create missing check texture which is different from the typical fabric texture of a Dhonekhali saree. This white saree is adorned with alternate stripes of black and red covering the entire body and pallu of the saree. Due to the missing check texture of the fabric, the stripes gives an appearance of checks until observed carefully. The body of the saree has horizontal bands of floral pattern in red and black covering the entire saree. The saree has broad ganga-jamuna striped border in red and black. The pallu has simple stripes of varying width in red that run vertically over the striped body. The pallu of the saree is adorned with the trademark ‘khejur chori’ design thread atypical of a Dhonekhali saree. This saree doesn’t come with a blouse piece.
This saree is a soft and breezy and a perfect work wear on a hot summer day. This saree can be paired with a variety of jewellery ranging from oxidised silver jewellery to fabric or burned terracotta jewellery.
